LOKI
Am Ch/Can GR CH Kyon’s Langveis Reisende
2014 –
We have been so pleased with our Norwegian Buhund boy LOKI (Am Ch/Can GR CH Kyon’s Langveis Reisende), who as of now in his 11th year has been retired from stud, but still lives a wonderful life as a beloved family pet with Elise.
There was no surprise that Loki turned out to be an amazing dog and phenomenal producer, who has made a tremendous impact on the world wide genepool of Norwegian Buhunds. Having been shown very briefly, he achieved several Best Puppy wins in the herding group and finished his championship in record time, from the puppy classes.
Brought out only a couple of weekends as a special, he garnered large herding dog placements and achieved his GRAND championship in a flash. To top it all off, in two short weekends, he achieved his American championship! Loki has exquisite breed-type, flawless movement and is phenomenally structured. He possesses a wonderfully courageous, sweet and exceptionally loyal temperament. His eyes were certified normal well into his 10th year.
UNO
Nor/Can ch Kimura Uno
2014-2023
We were so delighted when we were able to introduce our wonderful import Norwegian Buhund boy: Nor/Can ch Kimura Uno (co-owned with Dawne Deeley at Tsarshadow).
Uno finished his Norwegian championship with a Group 1st before arriving in Canada, and his Canadian Championship title with all group placements. He had A hips ( OFA GOOD) and certified clear eyes until he passed in May of 2023 in his tenth year, from a mass that was inoperable due to infiltration of the bladder.
Uno possessed a sterling temperament and was always happy, outgoing and confident. He was a sweet and supremely easy-going boy, and in both temperament and looks was an utterly breed-typical Norwegian Buhund, who loved working and was happily training in scent detection when he passed.
Our sincere thanks go out to Kathrine and Terje Lindstrøm for entrusting yet another gorgeous boy into our care, following in the footsteps of our fantastic TOMBA (Nor/Can Valtaurun Tomba Kimura (OS). We have been thrilled with the immense influence Uno has made on the Norwegian Buhund gene pool, worldwide. His eyes were certified for breeding well into his 10th year.
TOMBA
Nor. Can. Ch. Vaulartun’s Tomba Kimura
We were most excited to welcome Tomba to Kyon kennels in the spring of 2010 from Kimura kennels in Norway. Already a group-winner in Norway and World Junior Winner, Tomba brought a lot of strengths to our breeding program. A rich wheaten in colour, he is 18″ tall and perfectly balanced in both mind and body. He received an annual crystal clear eye-clearance, well into his now senior years. Tomba received his Canadian championship undefeated in 2 weekends with several group-placements. Thereafter he went on to a magnificent specials career where he garnered over 20 herding-group wins! A highly biddable and enthusiastic boy, he is ALL we could EVER have wanted. He has already proven his worth many times over in producing offspring of outstanding soundness and exquisite type in both North America and Europe. Now as a senior, Tomba is withdrawn from stud service. He was neutered at the age of 10, due to a persistent prostate infection. He spends his days as our beloved house-dog, running free and guarding our property. Most of all he loves spending his days in the bush with Wally. At his advanced age he still acts as if he is young dog – being a truly athletic and phenomenally structured buhund. Our deep gratitude goes out to Terje and Kathrine Lindstrøm for entrusting Tomba to our care. Tomba is co-owned with Dawne Deeley.
JON
Can Ch Kyon’s Trofaste Vesle-Jon
JON; our homebred buhund boy finished his championship as a puppy and sired obedience trial champions as well as champions. An exuberant dog with a strong working ethic we loved our gentle and sweet boy who thrived on praise. Jon possessed a strong herding instinct and had a high drive for working, yet was a gentle and sweet boy.
JARL
Can Ch Leitegard’s Frode Jarl
born 2000
JARL was a sweet and gentle boy who was imported from Norway. He got his championship easily, while becoming a multiple group placer in Canada. Jarl consistently produced his kind and gentle temperament and his working desire and he is behind many of our younger breeding stock.
PER
Leitegard’s Dristig Per Kyon
1989-1999
Per was the first Norwegian Buhund imported to Canada and became the foundation male for Kyon Kennels. He was an elegant dog, had exceptional type and structure and he moved like the wind. Per was also a wonderful house-pet, but he did not enjoy dog shows, so after after winning the herding group at rare breed shows- multiple times, he retired to sire puppies and herd our cattle. A soft and sweet dog, he was highly biddable and incredibly clever. Per unfortunately died prematurely, when he slipped out of our front gate and chased a car and was instantly killed. Due to his high herding drive he could not resist herding anything that moved. We mourned his death for a long time, but took comfort in knowing that he lives on in his many Kyon descendants. A clear self-cloured wheaten he exemplified correct Norwegian Buhund type.
PEIK
Can Ch Leitegard’s Trofast Peik Kyon
1994-2007
Peik was the first Norwegian Buhund to get his Canadian championship at the tender age of 13 months with a group second. He had a white collar and was a medium clear wheaten in colour. An extremely potent sire, he passed on his beautiful structure and type. Peik was a laid-back Buhund, but he still loved to work and had a strong, focused desire to please. He left a significant mark on the breed in Canada. Peik sired many herding dogs, master agility workers and obedience trial champions, as well as numerous show champions.
DRILLO
Nor. & Can Ch Treholmen’s Drillo
1995-2008
A rich wheaten in colour, Drillo was a gregarious, outgoing Buhund. He was eternally happy and loved to have fun. He was also the top-winning buhund in Canadian breed history for many years, until this honour was passed on to his daughter Siv (BIS & Grand ch Kyon’s Freidige Siv). A multiple group-winner he was the first Norwegian Buhund male to win the herding group. He was campaigned in the year 2000 and placed no 7 in the herding group in Canada, an incredible honour for such a rare breed. Drillo was an extremely influential sire for the Kyon Norwegian Buhund line.
