Fair winds and following seas to our dear Lennie (2009-2024)
We are deeply saddened to let you know that our dear Lennie has now been put to rest, kindly and just as he wanted. His mobility issues were getting too difficult for him, being such an ancient dog – and so he was gently let go.
Karin fell in love with Lennie when Bruce MacPherson brought the litter Lennie was from for her to “grade”. She told Bruce that she felt Lennie was one of the best male pups she had ever put her hands on. In short, she simply fell in love …. and then asked if she could buy him.
And so Lennie became a most beloved part of the Kyon clan and our many thanks go out to Bruce and Evelyn for letting us have this wonderful boy, so many years ago. Karin hadn’t planned on getting another male pup at that time, but this darling puppy just won her over on that wonderful summer day… He became her shadow on many hikes and was truly loved his whole life.
It was very hard for us all to recognize some years later that Lennie himself would do better in a pet-retirement home, compared to being in a busy kennel environment. We felt he needed more individual attention and thankfully the best home possibly came along.
In 2015 Lennie moved to the Edmison family- where he first met Clara – another golden retriever -and those two quickly became very close. Those were such happy times for their family as they watched the 2 happy Goldens run and play in the garden, both being so very gentle with all their grandchildren. People also used to comment to Leslie on their walks, about what a handsome dog Lennie was… and that he surely was: Just lovely- inside and out!
When Clara sadly passed, Lennie was very lonely- so Leslie and Robert reached out to see if there was another Kyon Golden they could have as a companion for him. “Lad” proved to be the perfect fit for Lennie! The two of them became wonderful pals in his last year of life, and Lennie came out of his grief and started to once again be more active, romping around in the backyard trying to keep up with Lad.
In January of this year, Lennie became weaker and the Librela shots were not giving him the same relief. When he stopped eating the Edminson family realized he was telling them that it was time… Our deepest thanks go out to them for all their care and love for Lennie over the past 9 years… and for honouring Lennie’s last wishes. A better home we could not have asked for, for our sweet boy!
Rest in Peace, darling Lennie. You lived a long and rich life, but the void you left behind simply feels impossible to fill right now. A better kinder and more gentle boy we all could not have asked for.
Lennie’s formal name was CH Brevmac’s Hallelujah for Kyon ( pedigree https://www.k9data.com/pedigree.asp?ID=439774 ). He lives on in his many descendants. Godspeed to our gentle and kind boy….. and thank you.
