Ch Dewmist Santorini (OS) (1994-2005)

Our sweet Toni passed away over the Easter weekend. He suffered a series of small strokes over one week – and then finally a massive one, which took him away from us, gently; in his sleep.

We found him in the early morning – and between his front paws he had gathered his new stuffy toys. It was as if he went to sleep rejoicing in his new toys; a soft Easter rabbit and a turtle. I will always remember how the night before he had held them so proudly in his mouth, wagging his tail in happiness – and I had then thought to myself; “he is getting better now, he will beat this….”

But then this was not to be.. and our sweet Toni was instead taken away from us.

We cannot think of Toni’s passing, without also remembering our close friend Jane Lunow (1946-1996) who was Toni’s co-owner and instrumental in bringing Toni to North America. Jane herself died far too soon and our grief for Toni has re-awakened our old sorrow over Jane’s early death.

I am happy to say that many of Jane’s hopes for Toni were fulfilled; first of all he had a happy life with us ,with lots of freedom to run through our fields and bush, a huge pond to swim in and always many things to retrieve, from balls to pheasants. Toni was a true retriever and this is what made him the happiest, that plus having little puppies of all ages around to gently play with.

Toni was a kind, kind dog and his tolerance was unlimited.

Also I know that Jane would have been proud had she known that Toni’s production record was outstanding; just like Toni himself was outstanding, in so many ways; not perfect, but beautiful on the inside and on the outside – lovely in both manner and looks.

What brings me comfort these days is that I know Toni is in so many pedigrees across Canada and the US and certainly he is everywhere here at Kyon kennels, in his many descendants.

So; wherever I turn, I can see that Toni is still with us…

Thank you Henric Fryckstrand (Dewmist kennels) for allowing us the privilege of owning this wonderful and kind-hearted dog.

Toni is sadly missed and will forever be remembered with fondness by Karin and Wally and the whole Barr-Klouman family

  1. Hi.
We own one of Toni’s “children “. Toni was the sire to our dog “Doc ” born August 22, 1997. We found him through Suzie Birks of Madison, Connecticut. We became his owners in 2001. How lucky are we to have just celebrated his 14 1/2 year birthday. We are happy to report that he is still thriving, although he needs a little WD40 for his back end.
He looks so much like his Daddy. We play 52 pick-up with his toys everyday. He has a brother Rusty who is 8 years old. They are quite a matched set. We couldn’t begin to tell you how much joy Doc has brought into our lives. We are so thankful for your wonderful breeding program. Very Sincerely, Susan and Jim Lewicki 49 Inwood Road Trumbull,CT 06611

    Hi Karin,
Sad news. I lost my Elliott/Kyon`s Early Morning Pizazz 16/01 out of Toni and Maltcairns Rise/ shine, far too soon to suit me. He went to the vets for a dental and she found a lipoma, 1.4 lb on his chest. He also had a cauliflower looking growth hanging down his throat. Biopsied and also benigh. I had them removed. He stopped eating. I took him to the vets 3 x that week. I called the vet to come to the house mon. a.m. when he could no longer stand up. He died before her arrival. He was gentle, sweet and kind like his sire. Thank you for entrusting him to me.He was always a house dog and very much spoiled. I wish I could get another puppy but I am a senior now and I will probably try to find a small rescue next month. He had a couple of health issues but nothing that would have prevented surgery. He had a beautiful coat partly because I fed him Blue Buffalo fish and sweet potato food. Here in Tn. everybody has allergies.
I live on 1 acre that is double fenced and my dogs love it. The day before surgery he was on the floor roughhousing with my cocker. I never expected to lose him like this. Again, thank you.

    Hi Karin and Wally,

My family was also lucky enough to own one of Toni’s “children”, Maddy, born August 22, 1997. We got Maddy from Suzie Birks in Madison, Connecticut (similar to Sue who left a comment above who I have been in touch with).

Unfortunately, Maddy passed away two weeks ago. She was just a couple of months shy of her 15th birthday and lived her life with great health other than arthritis as she grew old. She brought indescribable joy to our family and also to everyone in our neighborhood in New York City where she had many “neighborhood friends” who looked forward to seeing her smiling face each day on her trips to Central Park.

Maddy looked like a very feminine version of her father with the same gleam in her eye! Not a day went by when people didn’t stop me to comment on her beauty or gentle soul!

Maddy also loved her toys and she had more of them than either of my two children had!

I am also thankful for your wonderful breeding program. I know this loss was several years back but I have been looking at all things golden since maddy’s passing and I wanted to let you know how Toni impacted my family. Best regards, Karen Shapiro 18 West 70th Street #6D New York, NY 10023

thank you for letting me know of Maddy’s passing. although you had her for 15 wonderful years i know it is never long enough- and i can just imagine the void must feel almost impossible to fill right now. she sounds as of she was a truly special girl– and much like her sweet daddy!
